The HomeGoods site was a combination of an older ASP site combined a WordPress 2.x MU site that ran both the HG Blog and Consumer Inspiration submission site.  The navigation on WordPress sites was an iframe of the navigation from the ASP site so that it would only need to be managed from one set of code; this required some JavaScript and CSS tricks to get the navigation fly-outs to work well in browsers like IE 6.
